When I first saw Sewing Mamma RaeAnna‘s Bumblebee Dress pattern it just screamed princess dress. I know I know I have a princess dress making addiction. But I’ve never made one in this style. So I knew when she invited me to be a part of her pattern tour I would do a very princess-y version.
The nieces LOOOOVE them. All weekend they were around like freaking Cinderella’s step sisters – Anastasia and Drizella.
In fact I showed up to church and they were wearing them. I didn’t really think they were church dresses when I made them but I guess my mom and sister thought otherwise haha. I just kind of sighed when we went up to communion and they were carefully holding their skirts. Oh dear.
I pretty much stuck to the pattern but before I sewed the bodice up I added some ribbon in a crisscross pattern to give a little corset feel. It was so easy and you could do it to lots of different types of dresses. I am usually not one for pinning but I think in this case measuring and pinning are a must. But besides that it’s all about laying it out and sewing the ribbon down before you attach any other pieces. I did sew a straight stitch down both sides of the ribbon. And I also increased the skirt length.
I had to include these pictures because as you know my love of YA fantasy makes me love a good kick-butt princess heroine so when the girls started practicing karate in their dresses it warmed my geeky heart.
As far as the pattern goes the sizing was right on and it came together super easily. It looks kinda fancy but this was not complicated at all and the directions were easy to understand the first time around. It comes with the sleeve option like I did and a sleeveless option. I definitely suggestion picking it up especially while it’s on sale this week for only $5.

It’s funny because when I saw the pattern my mind couldn’t see anything except a princess dress but after seeing all the different versions being shared on this blog tour I’m blown away by the versatility of the pattern. Here are some of my favorites that have been shared so far. See even more over at RaeAnna’s I think it would make a super sweet Christmas Pajama nightgown or top paired with some pajama pants.

Oh my, how cute! I especially love them holding up their dresses, just like the Disney movie. :) I like the idea of making a fancy nightgown with the pattern too, I just might have to squeeze it in before Christmas!

Oh my gosh. I loveAnastasia & Drusilla…I always like the bad guys and villains for some reason. The picture of them from behind….too precious!! I love your take on this dress!!
I know you’re going to choose an awesome name for your little boy. I can’t wait until we find out!! My daughter was going to be Vivienne, but she totally didn’t match that name when isaw her. I’d have a top 10 list just in case:)
Also, you may want to keep it a secret until he’s born. For some reason; when you choose a name, friends and family think they can tell you they don’t like it or they knew someone horrible by that name…but if you wait until after he’s born they can’t say anything or they’ll look like a real jerk. (Lol)
Anyways, that was a couple posts ago but idid t get a chance to comment at the time. :)

awww thanks. I’m totally going to keep it a secret people really can say dumb things and I have no intention on risking them ruining a name for us!
