My kid LOOOOOVES dying Easter eggs. I mean he loves decorating for all holidays and he loves painting and experiments of all sorts so I kind of knew he’d be all in with the Easter egg painting thing.

Even still, I do not love mess crafts and my husband loves that even less. So for years we let him do Easter egg crafts with the grandmas and I impulse bought this crazy Egg spinner (it’s actually pretty awesome) to contain the dye.

But then last year we were all separated and I broke down and shared the magic of how to dye Easter eggs. With one of those basic dye kits and cups it wasn’t too bad.

We even got creative and did designs on the eggs with white crayons and it was fun to see the designs where the dye didn’t take. And of course Easter stickers!

How to Hard Boil Eggs

First up you need to figure out how to hard boil eggs for Easter eggs and don’t worry if you’re nervous to ask, it’s exactly the same as if you needed a hard boiled egg for any other reason.

The Instant Pot makes the eggs SO easy to peel but if you don’t have a pressure cooker you can for sure boil them. Back before my IP days I would add the eggs to a pot and cover with water. Bring the water to a boil cover with a lid turn off the flame and allow to sit for 12 minutes. Theses were pretty darn good.

But now my very favorite way to boil eggs is using the instant pot because it’s so easy.

1. Place eggs on egg rack.
2. Put 1 cup water on in the lining pot.
3. Close lid and put valve in sealing position.
4. Cook on high pressure for 6 minutes and allow to naturally release.
5. Place eggs in an ice bath to cool down.

How to Whip Cream Dye Eggs

We’ve tried a bunch of different ways to decorate Easter eggs but in my attempts to minimize the mess I was really drawn to the shaving cream dyed eggs that look almost tie dyed.

After some research I learned that you aren’t supposed to eggs dyed with shaving cream so we used Cool whip instead. It’s really easy. Spread the whipped topping out drop a few drops of food coloring and swirl with a tooth pick. Roll the eggs through the dye and Cool whip and let sit then wipe the cream off after it’s had some time to take.

Ours turned out pretty but very light. I did see the tip to soak the eggs in a water vinegar mixture to help the dye take so I’d for sure try that next time!
