I’m really starting to LOVE these Sew Our Stash days (the last Thursday of the month) where Bev from Flamingo Toes and I share some stuff we’ve been sewing for ourselves. I am excited to see many of you joining in and tagging your pictures with #sewourstash on Instagram. It’s been great fun to flip through them!
I totally lucked out with going to Sewing Summit last week since a few of my classes helped me take some time for myself and do some selfish sewing which has not been happening amongst all my costume sewing.
It’s times like these when I am reminded just how quick and easy it is to sew for ourselves. I think so many of us get distracted by thinking how much time it will take to make ourselves something but both of these projects were fun and easy and I finished LONG before our 2 hour class sessions were done. Yes it’s fun to learn new techniques and challenge ourselves but sometimes it’s nice just to do an easy project. And I don’t know about you but these turned out way better than a lot of the stuff I’ve tried on in stores lately and seriously they are tons cheaper.
These pictures were from my Polo refashion class taught by Merrick of Merrick’s Art who I met during Fabric Weekend. Basically we all showed up with oversized frumpy men’s polo shirts and turned them into cute form fitting tops. See oh so frumpy to oh I’d actually wear that out of the house. Here is her Polo Refashion Tutorial if you want to make your own!
The other class was taught by the lovely Jessica of Running with Scissors who I also happened to be lucky enough to room with. Her basic blouse class was fantastic. We each went away with a woven shirt a pattern and LOTS of fun ways to personalize and adapt the shirt pattern. I’m thinking next time a bunch of pintucks down the front would be pretty. Check out Jessica’s great variations on this simple blouse.
And now for some exciting news. Bev and I will be featuring some of our favorite #sewourstash pictures every month! Here is our first batch of features.
@feathersflights @sewbon @laurenydahl @sewcaroline @frauntiek @onetinyhouse @sewcountrychick @sewcaroline
Thank you guys for being so awesome and linking up your selfish sewing with the #sewourstash hashtag. I love seeing all the different pictures whether it’s the fabric selection, cutting, sewing, finished shots, or even wearing your creations out in the wild. Be sure to follow Bev at @flamingotoes and me over at @raegunramblings to see what we’re up to and to catch mid-month features. And of course hop on over to Flamingo Toes to see what Bev has been sewing this month.

Aww thanks Jessica. I’m feeling great. I keep meaning to make more of your shirts but I’ve been slacking on the fabric washing. Soon though!
