Last year was a great year for bookish movies. We had so many to pick from and this year is no exception. The exciting thing about the list for this year is that it contains some of my FAVORITE books. All of these books on the list I read and enjoyed. My least favorite was The Giver but I know I’m definitely in the minority on that one. The rest I would say were really good to great! I have to be honest I am SUPER nervous about some of these especially Vampire Academy and Divergent. Those are two of my favorite book series. However the movies turn out I’m excited to see them! Here are my most anticipated YA Book movie adaptations of 2014. So there it is you’re reading list if you haven’t gotten to all of these.
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
- February 7th
- These books are great. It’s a terrible name, but fabulous series. I’m not a vampire person either if you haven’t started them and like kick butt heroines and paranormal romance check it out. Be warned book 1 starts out slow but it’s well worth it. These are some of my favorite stories and characters ever!
- The movie looks totally cheeseball but I guess we’ll find out this weekend.
Divergent by Veronica Roth
- March 21st
- I absolutely ADORE this book. It blew me away. You have probably heard about it before but if not and you liked The Hunger Games I’d say check this out. Very interesting ideas and a cool dystopian world and yup another kick but heroine.
- I’m kind of a Shailene Woodley hater sorry I just see her as Amy Jurgens (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) in every roll I’ve watched. That being said I think I can see her as Tris but the guy they cast as Four looks like a meat head and nothing at all that endeared Four to me in the book. But I’m hoping to be proven wrong.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
- June 6th
- This book is as good as everyone says. It’s not as heart-wrenching and tear-jerking as people say. And yes it’s a cancer story. But the characters are so witty and fun and the treatment of the diseases and the life that goes with it, while not shallow, is enjoyable.
- Shailene again? But actually I think I could see Amy Jurgens working for this role and the trailer looks super good to me.
The Giver by Lois Lowry
- August 15th
- People love this book. It made me mad but I can see some good things in it. And I can totally see how if this was the your first exposure to the dystopian genre how it’d would stick. I feel like it’s just one of the canon for YA reading so even though it wasn’t my favorite I still think it’s worth reading.
- I actually think this might make a better movie than book.
If I Stay by Gayle Foreman
- August 22nd
- This book is ah-mazing! I’ve never read a book like it. The whole story is told after the main character has been in a car accident and lays waiting to die or wake up. It flashes through her beautiful life and reasons for and against fighting. Her family is one of my favorites I’ve read about. It’s really great.
- I like the look of the cast. I hope they do a fair treatment it’s such a good story.
- September 19th
- A boy wakes up with his memory wiped and in an unfamiliar place with a bunch of other boys who have appeared in a similar way, one every 30 days. There’s a maze and dangerous things outside and all of a sudden a girl appears.
- I had the pleasure of listening to James Dashner speak about the movie and it got me really excited. I liked the book but I just didn’t love it but I see the story and characters as having the potential to be a great movie.
Mockingjay Part 1
- November 21st
- Third book of the Hunger Games Trilogy. Crazy stuff happens.
- It’s a part 1 so we don’t even have to worry about “that ending”. I don’t know about you but I’ve thought the other two movies have been great. Captured the spirit of the story and characters and I’m so happy with them. I’m curious about how the movie will be split up. The story is so different than in the first two books. Gale has to finally act and he’s just seemed meh so far but I’m excited.
Let’s connect! You can also find me hanging out here.
