I have a ton of Harry Potter shirts but no skirts yet so I decided to do something about that. I made two simple knit skirts in the same style as my 20 minute maxi skirt tutorial but shortened up. Don’t make fun of me for making two gray skirts for Sew Our Stash Potter Style because I actually really like them and I know I’ll wear them. I’m a bit of a gray fiend.
The actual skirt part was very fast. To the first one I added a vinyl iron-on that I made to the bottom. After making my little Gryffindor House Pride Skirt and the Swish and Flick top I wanted to make myself a Swish and Flick something. I’m really happy with how this turned out.
I’ve been wanting to make a book shelf skirt kinda like this one for a long time. I’ve had dreams about something gathered and full with a sash and a big bow that ties. I picture it to be very Zooey Daschanel but this month that level of sewing was NOT about to happen. I mean really where the heck did July go? So knit aline it was. I just took some strips of fabric and put heat and bond on them and that’s really it.
I think I want to top stitch it still but I keep going back and forth to whether I want to add book titles to the “bindings”. What do you think? My original idea was going to be to add some of the titles of Wizard World books from Harry Potter using more you guest it heat transfer vinyl but I’m not sure I might like the weird psuedo-quilted look that’s going on. And maybe I’ll still do that fuller version that’s been stuck in my head.
This month Bev is sharing another awesome round up at Flamingo Toes. Make sure you go check it out. And I hope you’re still making time to sew for yourself. If you are make sure to snap some pics and post them on Instagram and tag them #sewourstash. Until next month :)
