I know some of you may be just as curious as my friends and I had been about NBC’s new series Revolution. I’m not going to lie, when I first saw the add for it early this Summer I was a little weirded out. It just felt very formulaic like hey here’s 5 awesome dystopian novels lets take this element from you this element from you and this element from you. But my friend Mark who is a huge lost fan and has good tastes was going to give it try so I figured I would too.
So here are my thoughts after watching the pilot. I just typed them as I watched. They aren’t flushed out because I don’t want to give anything away. Here’s a bit of background though. Every thing is like it is now for us (technology etc.) and then the power goes out, everywhere. They jump to 15 years after the black out and we find ourselves staring at a dystopian society.
- Very Blood Red Road
- Their clothes are SO clean and new, the people are so clean and new, it is totally bizarre. After 15 years of NO industry, really? I don’t need them to be filthy (although I think they probably would be). But they seriously all look like they are doing a Gap commercial while out hunting. Totally pulled me out of the story.
- It had a very distinct Firefly feel that made me excited.
- So far I’m not a fan of the lead actress, her character and her acting.
- What a Ferris wheel scene oh hi Divergent (okay this is stretching it because I just now always associate Ferris wheels with Divergent, but that’s out of pure awesomeness)
- Kind of a good villain.
- Kinda violent and graphic for prime time. Yeah yeah you are going to say “but Marissa you love the Hunger Games and Divergent and…” but for me there’s something different between books and TV. That being said I’m fine with the violence it wasn’t to the point that I was disturbed (like when I tried to watch Dexter or Breaking Bad) but you might want to keep that in mind if you had kiddos.
- Legend elements.
- And just when I wasn’t sure if I’d tune in for the second episode, in full Abrams style a little twist.
Revolution premiers this Monday (Sept. 17) night, I’d love to know what you think about it too, because honestly my interest is peaked but I’m undecided.

Just watched it ON DEMAND this morning. The villains are brutish, the “hot” uncle is interesting (was he an Army Ranger or SEAL or what before the lights went off?) and the plot twist at the end was gooood. I will surely be watching on Monday night!

I think I might get into it in a few years. I like watching a show after it has been on for awhile, so I don’t have to wait. :)

I watched this early too, and I really loved it. I was a huge fan of LOST, and I also read dystopian YA, so it was way appealing to me.
And of course since I am interested in this show, it’s likely that it will get canceled. Seems like all my faves of this new season might end up on the chopping block. :-(

Do you remember the VERY short lived Eastwick on ABC??? I loved that show. They used the Stars Hollow set from Gilmore Girls. :-( And also, there was an amazingly blue eyed boy in that show that I loved to watch. :-(

I dont have cable so I doubt I’ll get a chance to catch this one but I think the clean clothes would throw me off too. If you are into shows with similar plot lines… I really love Jericho! Skeet Ulrich does it for me.
