One of my friends wanted to do something special for a buddy of hers who is having her first son. My friend had the ribbon from her pregnant friend’s wedding bouquet and wanted something that incorporated that. Cute idea right? The first thing that popped into my head was a little taggie blanket because we all know how little people love chewing on those and playing with ribbon.
It was such a quick and easy project and I think it turned out really cute that this would be great for one of those last minute baby showers.
What You Need
- Fabric one piece for the front or back. The amount depends on the size of blanket you want. I used pieces that were each 21×21 inches. (Any kind of fabric would work but I used flannel for one side and just a regular cotton quilting fabric for the other)
- Scraps of ribbon
- Pins
What To Do
- Decide how big you want to make your blanket and cut both pieces of fabric to size. I’ve seen small ones that are 12×12 but I did 21×21 since it was an easy square to make with the fabric I had on hand.
- Then cut and fold your ribbon and position it on the right side of one of your fabric pieces (I used ribbon pieces that ranged from 2-5 inches).
- Pin the other piece of fabric right side down to the first pieces catching the ribbon pieces. The ribbon should now be sandwiched between the right sides of your fabric.
- If you want rounded corners use a bowl to draw the curve on each corner.
- Sew around the edge leaving a whole where you can flip the blanket right side out.
- Iron.
- Top stitch around the blanket closing the hole.
- Look at your adorable taggie blanket you made and feel proud.

I love that you used her wedding ribbons! I’m going to have to do that with mine. Another thing you can do that makes the babies freak out with glee, use an old empty chip bag in the middle of your layers to make it crinkly. They love the sound.

I love your taggie blanket! The elephants are adorable. I’ve made some of these for each of my kiddos. We call them “loveys” in our house.

That is just darling and I LOVE that you used ribbon that is meaningful! Did you have to change the foot on your machine to sew through so many layers? I’m a newbie at this kind of thing, so I’m sorry if it’s a “duh” kind of question.

I have made tag blankets for years, probably 60 in all. We also call them Loveys. I make sure I match the ribbons to the nursery and mix textures and designs . Usually they are 21″ square, but sometimes I add a little car lovey, which is 12″. Little ones need two, you understand : )
