Yes, Dorothy. I am so excited. I adore Halloween so when these custom requests came in I was thrilled. The musicmaker is not into Halloween and for some bizarre reason turned down my offer to go look at the pattern book for a costume for him. So far he’s only let me make him a tiger costume and that’s only because he had one when he was a wee one and thought it would be funny. I’m just waiting for the day that I have my own munchins to dress up (or that my nieces live close enough and are old enough to request their own Halloween costumes). I want to make my own costume but as I’ve been researching for Dorothy I’ve thought that would be a really cute costume for me too. Oh I don’t know, I guess I have time.
I bought 5 costume patterns today and probably at least 20 earlier this year, not that I really use patterns these days, they usually fit insanely poorly and make you do things in really dumb ways, but I like to look at the pieces and ways that they put things together. But the other fun costume I get to make is Pebbles. I so hope the little one that this is going to has red hair. I think that would be so stinking cute.
Oh I love Halloween. There’s just something about a handmade costume. I know some moms don’t have the time or the sewing inclination so I’m so happy to provide them with the means to give their little ones the perfect costume. I’ve had a number of orders for Fancy Nancy dresses for Halloween and I’m hoping to crank out a couple other ready to ship costumes for Thursday’s update so be sure to check in.

I love love love love love love Halloween! I really wanted my 2 year old to dress up as Dorothy, since I’m going to be a scarecrow this year, but I don’t know that we’ll be able to find a costume. I guess now that shes old enough to have preferences, I can ler her decide what she wants to be.

I need to think of something for the boys for Halloween—
last year 2 pirates
the year before a cowboy and a cow
hmmm….
If I ever have a daughter I’m going to make my whole family do the wizard of Oz theme with me (dorothy, wicked witch, tin man, lion, scarecrow) we’d have it made!

I want Penelope to be the little girl, Boo, in Monster’s Inc. when they dress her up like a monster (we call Penelope Boo as a nickname so we thought it’d be cute) Although her favorite thing right now is the movie Cars and anything to do with “trucks” as she calls it. I should find something around that, but who wants a little girl to be a Car for Halloween…hmmm
Marissa Fischer says
oh my gosh both Jessica those are such cute ideas. I actually just watched Cars and rewatched Monster’s Inc. I think Penelope would be an adorable Boo but I saw a cute car costume a couple years ago straps over the shoulder holding a car and the person was like the driver of the car but that might be too awkward for little Penelope.
Tia I’ll be trying to get Dorothy done early so if you like it you can always have me make your munchin one too.

Where is a good place to purchase a Pebbles pattern. I have a 9 year old who wants to be Pebbles and for the first time I would like to try to make it. Problem is I just learned how to hem pants!! I got a sewing machine for Christmas and had never even seen one used before but wanted to learn how to sew. I really want to make a costume for her but I would have to work from a pattern and can’t find one online.

kathy I’m just basing my pebbles on an A-line dress (shorten more in the front than back) and sewing on black pieces and tourquoise bottoms. You can do a simple version of what I did (I’ll post pictures next week) by doing the black in felt and going to get Simplicity patterns that say easy or quick on them

Thank you so much Marissa. I really appreciate the help!! I’ll go look for a-line patterns today.
