I’m in charge of rolls and green bean casserole. I also think I’ll try my first apple pie. I’m going to use a recipe from the 101 Cookbooks blog for the corn bread rolls and I think I’ll make some good old fashion Lion House Rolls. The Lion House Restaraunt here in Salt Lake makes the most delicious white rolls; oh so buttery. I found and tweaked a recipe for them last year. I like variety so I think I’ll halve both recipes. The green bean casserole will be mostly the same as the soup can style but with some cheese. And the apple pie is from allrecipes.com. If it turns out I’ll share it here. Eat it.
Here’s the recipe for the Lion House Rolls (I’ll post this one ’cause I know it’s good)
Combine and dissolve.
2C warm water
2/3 C dry milk
add the following in this order
2 TBS yeast
1/4 C sugar
2 tsp salt
1/3 C butter
1 egg
add 2 cups flour mix for 2 minutes repeat and then add 1/2 cup at a time untill the mixture stops sticking
coat a bowl with oil, turn the dough in a ball cover with plastic and allow to double in size
on a floured surface shape into rolls. Let them double in size again (1-1.5 hours)
Bake 375 F for 15-25 minutes brush with butter.
Enjoy. Great with honey butter.
If you’re over here in the states what’s your job this Thanksgiving?
UPDATE: I really didn’t like those corn muffin things

We have to bring green bean casserole too, as well as corn and sweet potato pound cake.

My assignment was the whole dinner. I made my first apple pie, too! I didn’t realize that aside from cutting up all those apples, they’re actually quite easy. How did your pie turn out?

My apple pie was yummy flavor wise. I should have baked it longer. And my crust was not crunchy. It was way easier than I expected.
I am sad to report I didn’t like how the cornbread muffins turned out. I didn’t even take them. They were way too heavy and dense.

I burned the biscuits I tried to make… Of course, I also burned myself and whacked myself in between the eyes with a heavy cutting board (by accident)…

I roasted a yummy turkey that I bought at Trader Joe’s with cornbread sausage stuffing and I also made slow-cooked Southern style green beans. Those were my three contributions to dinner!
