I know I’m not the only one that loves a good pigs in a blanket. The classic savory delight is made with a hot dog or sausage wrapped in pastry dough.
I recall Al Roker suggesting the treat for Will and Kate’s wedding a while back. I do believe I hit on a little bit of genius on this one though.
In this version I add a great twist on the classic with two more awesome party favs: chili and cheese. The addition of the scrumptious chili and gooey cheese really takes these up a notch!
It’s like magic it’s so good and easy. Me being too lazy to make real food and what do we get, this must make snack.
The first time I made these I was just looking for something to do with the leftover chili that MIL had brought over.
I happened to have hot dogs, cheese, and crescent rolls on hand. And the Chili Cheese Pig in a Blanket was born. Since then I have used a variety of chilis and cheese including canned chili.
Beans or no beans it’s really up to your personal preferences, I’ve used and enjoyed both!
Ingredients for Chili Cheese Pigs in a Blanket
- Refrigerated Crescent Rolls
- 4 Hot Dogs
- 1/2 C Chili
- 2 Slices Cheese (or 8 pinches shredded cheese)
- Salad Supreme seasoning (optional)
Directions for Making Chili Cheese Pigs in a Blanket
- Open the crescent rolls and separate along the perforations. Lay the triangle pieces of roll dough flat.
- Cut each of the hot dogs in half.
- Place a small spoonful of chili on the dough.
- If using cheese slices cut into 8 pieces total. Sprinkle or lay cheese on top of chili.
- Top with the hot dogs.
- Roll the hot dogs, chili and cheese into the dough to form a crescent roll shape.
- If desired top with Salad Supreme seasoning for some extra flavor and color.
- Back according to the crescent roll package directions.
A warning. You will be tempted to over stuff these. It’s hard not to but you really only need a small spoonful (like teaspoon small) of chili.

Notes
- A warning. You will be tempted to over stuff these. It's hard not to but you really only need a small spoonful (like teaspoon small) of chili.
- You can use a sorts of chili, beans, no beans, homemade or store bought from a can.
- Try out different types of cheese, I've used both sliced havarti and shredded Mexican mix but use whatever you have on hand!
I have piled and on and it gushed out during cooking. The cheese held it all together and miraculously it was still delicious and I was able to eat it as finger food but if you want them to not look like a sloppy mess keep the spoon smallish.
Don’t worry it will still be full of flavor!
