I always loved the little city fairs we had when I was little and later the state fairs I went to in San Luis Obispo at Aunt Patti’s Lake House. The fried food, the totally sketch rides and the jacuzzis on exhibit. It wasn’t until I moved to Utah that I really noticed the competition and this year I entered. One of my friends at sewing class is kind of obsessed with entering things in the State Fair and getting others to so she commissioned a little dress for a possible future baby of hers. It’s not my style so it was exceptionally fun because I got to work with materials and a feel that I would have never picked out on my own but I think it turned out darling. She bought a super soft linen, the cutest trim and embroidered little pink horses on the fabric.
She is the queen of embroidery although I think we went through 5 back pieces to get one correct one: the machine jammed, the placement was a bit off, I cut the piece the wrong size, you name it we did it.
But here’s the finished piece, I don’t know if it placed at all, I did it much more last minute than I was planning and I know there were things that weren’t quite perfect about it. But it was really fun to fill out the form, turn it in and just feel proud that I made it. I’ll take pictures after I go to the fair and it’s displayed. If you’re in Salt Lake go to the fair it’s fun.
