White Christmas Sisters Feathered Fan Tutorial

Learn how to make White Christmas Sisters feathered fans just like they use in the movie!

Today I’m joining The Crafting Chicks as a part of their AWESOME Christmas Traditions series. I’ve really been loving it so many great recipes, projects, and activities to do with the family. Plus those crafting chicks are pure gems. Some of the nicest girls around!

I am sharing my family’s love for the classic movie White Christmas and no it’s not the same movie as Holiday Inn. If you haven’t seen White Christmas it’s this great musical with tons of dancing and the perfect amount of romance and good happy feelings. Definitely check it out.

White Christmas Sisters Fan Dance

To try and pass down the obsession to the nieces I made these really easy Sisters Feathered Fans. In the movie there is this famous scene where the two sister characters dance with big blue feathered fans and to help them out the to male characters pretend to be them and it’s awesome and hilarious.

And just for a bit of extra fun how about a little performance from the nieces :)

We have some fun Christmas traditions in our family from making wontons from scratch to making handmade ornaments but my favorite tradition has got to be watching White Christmas. We are a little obsessed.

Since we were little my sister and I would watch the classic movie and talk about which dresses we we liked best, singing the songs and most importantly loving that “Sisters” number that they sang in those beautiful blue dresses.

Now that my nieces are older we’ve finally succeeded in getting them equally obsessed with the movie. So to feed our silliness this year I made some simple feathered fans just like the girls use in their Sisters number in the show.

How to Make White Christmas Sisters Fans

They were so easy and inexpensive to make. When I gave them to the nieces they were so excited and started singing the sisters song. Warms my heart!

What You Need to Make Sisters Fans

This is one of those tutorials that you can totally make what you have work. I used a cheap fan and I looked everywhere for blue feathers but didn’t find a pack of only blue.

Instead I ended up going with a blue boa I found at the craft store and actually that worked better than I could have imagined and now in hindsight I think loose feathers would have been really annoying.

Instructions for DIY White Christmas Sister Fans

The fans were so easy. I grabbed the blue boa with a coupon at my local craft store (but my amazon link looks cheaper above) and found some costume fans at a party store right next door.

This tutorial is for two fans because I mean Sisters! But really if you just want one fan you only need half a boa.

Cut the boa in half.
Open up one fan so it is fulling expanded.
Apply glue to the fan in a wide zig zag pattern and layer the boa on top and gently press.
Repeat for the second fan.

It was so quick and the girls absolutely love them. Heck I love them!

If you haven’t seen White Christmas it’s pretty great. Definitely my favorite Christmas movie, I highly recommend it! Also if you have any girls in your family it’s got that extra special sisters magic that will probably grab them too!
